7.2 Server-Side Testing Overview
Follow these steps to use ReadyGo's Server-Side Testing module.
  1. Step 1: Create your course including tests and surveys. Generate the course.
  1. Step 2: Have your system administrator install the Server-Side Testing module on your web server. Ask them for the URL to the Server-Side Testing script file. The URL will be similar to this: http://www.yourcompany.com/scripts/rdgsvtst.exe or http://www.yourcompany.com/cgi-bin/rdgsvtst
  1. Step 3: Choose Testing & Tracking > Course-wide Setup from the menu bar. You need to know the correct location of the Server-Side Testing module, if you want test answers stored in addition to the grades, and if students will self-register or be pre-registered. Generate your course.
  1. Step 4: Choose Testing & Tracking > User Registration. You can add fields that you want students to enter when they register. If you are allowing self-registration, you do not need to enter student names.

If you want the students to be pre-registered, fill in the student information. If you have an existing registration list, you may want to reformat it (using a spreadsheet program) to look like the file userlist.txt that is placed in your course output in the test directory. Make sure that the first three fields are the User ID, last name, and first name. The next two columns should be left empty.

    Generate your course.
  1. Step 5: Choose Testing & Tracking > Transfer Test Files to transfer the test information to your web server. The trickiest part of the setup is knowing the location to put the server test files. Consult with your system administrator for this location.

System administrators: The server test files must be placed in subdirectories created under a subdirectory named readygo. The readygo subdirectory needs to reside in the same directory as the CGI script file - rdgsvtst.exe. For example, if rdgsvtst.exe is placed in the /inetpub/scripts directory, the server test files for the course should be placed in the directory /inetpub/scripts/readygo/course_name. This directory must be readable and writeable by the process that runs the CGI script.
  1. Step 6: Once you transfer your course to your web server, your students can begin learning. On some systems, however, your web administrator may need to change the directory read/write privileges for your course information so that results can be stored.
  1. Be sure to transfer your server test files again if you make any changes such as adding a question.

Tip Tip Before transferring test files to your web server, confirm with your system administrator the correct URL and transfer directory name. The course will not work if you transfer your files to the wrong place.
