Answers

Product Sales Information

Why is ReadyGo Web Course Builder priced so much less then all the other eLearning authoring tools?

Answer

Web Course Builder looks so simple. Can it really produce complex courses?

Answer
ReadyGo Web Course Builder separates creating the look of a course from creating the content. We have found that this simplifies the process of creating courses. Our tool produces sophisticated, pedagogically sound, multi-tier web sites.

When I use ReadyGo Web Course Builder to create a course, who owns the course?

Answer
When you buy ReadyGo Web Course Builder, you pay for the rights to use the authoring tool on one PC. All courses created with ReadyGo Web Course Builder are property of the author - not ReadyGo.

How can I create an ROI for ReadyGo Web Course Builder?

Answer
Our customers have told us the following. They have found that it costs them $2,000 to create one hour of web based training using other tools. It costs them $200 to create on hour of web based training using the ReadyGo Web Course Builder. That is a 10 fold savings using the ReadyGo Web Course Builder.)

I can use PowerPoint to create eLearning courses. Why would I use ReadyGo WCB?

Answer
PowerPoint is a presentation tool, not an web based training authoring tool. The main drawbacks of using PowerPoint for web based training are:
  • The structure is linear ONLY.
  • The structure is that of a presentation. You cannot provide the additional resources (like a glossary, links to other web sites, places where the student can get help), unless you add these at the end of your presentation.
  • HTML format from PowerPoint is not optimal for the web. PowerPoint as HTML is a snapshot of every slide stored as a graphic with some navigation buttons built around it.
  • Content is not searchable...it is just a series of graphics that are strung together.
  • If the student's monitor has too high or too low resolution, they will have a hard time reading the content.
  • If the student has a low bandwidth connection to the server, it will take a long time for each page to download.
  • No Tests/Surveys/Exercises - the kinds of elements that distinguish "web based training" from "Presentations."
  • PowerPoint is designed for delivery from a PowerPoint player (or PowerPoint itself). It is not designed for delivery using a web browser of unknown screen size.

What do I get when I purchase ReadyGo Web Course Builder?

Why doesn't ReadyGo Web Course Builder include graphics in the tool?

Answer
There are two versions of ReadyGo Web Course Builder. ReadyGo WCB does not include any graphic tools. Course authors that need to develop graphics can purchase ReadyGo WCB Plus. The Plus version includes a graphic design tool, a screen capture and simulation production tool, and a PowerPoint to Flash converter.

How many chapters and pages can I create per course?

Answer
You can create a course with 100 chapters and 60 pages per chapter, though we do not recommend that you create courses that large.

How do I import ASCII text into a course?

Answer
You can copy and paste ASCII text or any other text directly into Web Course Builder.

Can I copy information from a Word document and paste it into a course without losing the formatting?

Answer
ReadyGo WCB supports RTF. You can copy a Word, Excel, or PowerPoint document and paste it into ReadyGo WCB. All formatting is preserved.

How many test questions can I have on a test and what type of tests questions can I ask?

Answer
ReadyGo Web Course Builder supports up to 100 questions per test. It supports multiple choice, True/False, fill-in-the-blank, number range, and question feedback.

Can I enter HTML, XML, Java Script, or Java directly into ReadyGo Web Course Builder?

Answer
Yes, anything that is web-readable can be entered into ReadyGo Web Course Builder. Code is carried along when the course is generated.

Can ReadyGo WCB do flying bullets like PowerPoint?

Answer
Flying bullets work great in a presentation since they give the presenter control of the information being displayed. Flying bullets can be very frustrating to learners taking an eLearning course. Just think how difficult it would be to read a book if you had to wait for each line to fly onto the page. Additionally, you loose all your accessibility (ADA/W3C) if you use flying bullets.

How do I import PowerPoint graphics into ReadyGo Web Course Builder?

Answer
ReadyGo Web Course Builder can use all web-readable graphics. You must either save Power Point to web-readable or use a graphic tool to copy the graphics into a web-readable format such as GIF or JPEG.

Is there a way to have access control for a course? For example, can a course have a login page where a student enters a username and a password before accessing the course? If you have multiple courses on your web server, could the student login and be taken to a specific course?

Answer
Access control is done through a server. You could use a Learning Management System or you could use our Server-Side Testing module. Alternately, you could set up a password protected subdirectory on your web server.

Software and User System Requirements

What are the minimum system requirements for ReadyGo Web Course Builder?

Answer
The minimum system requirements are:
  • A 486 processor with 100+ MHz
  • 4 MB of available RAM
  • 13 MB of available disk space
The system runs well on any Pentium class computer with Windows 95 or later. We recommend a Pentium with 266+ MHz and enough RAM for the O/S (8 MB for Win95, 16 MB for Win98, 32 MB for WinNT, 64 MB for Win2000, 64 MB for WinME, and 256 MB for WinXP).

What level skill set do my people need to create a course with ReadyGo Web Course Builder?

Answer
ReadyGo Web Course Builder was developed for non-technical people. If a course developer can use PowerPoint, then they can use ReadyGo Web Course Builder.

What does a course developer need to create a course using Web Course Builder?

Answer
ReadyGo Web Course Builder is a self-contained environment that runs on any Microsoft operating system (Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP, or NT).

All web-based applications need to be approved by my company's IT department. How difficult is ReadyGo Web Course Builder to implement?

Answer
There are no special technical requirements to deploy a course developed using ReadyGo Web Course Builder. You just need to place the course on a corporate web server. ReadyGo Web Course Builder creates web pages using standard HTML and JavaScript. The course runs like a web site on a computer within your company's intranet, extranet, or Internet web site. All the graphics in the course are created as GIF files so that they are small and will not impact the performance of your company's network. Employees need a frames enabled, Java enabled (3.0 or greater) browser to get the full impact of any course created with ReadyGo Web Course Builder.

Standards Compliance

Is ReadyGo Web Course Builder AICC and/or SCORM compliant?

Answer
Courses built with ReadyGo WCB work with both AICC appendix A and appendix B and SCORM version 1.2. For more information on AICC and SCORM, visit our short course An Introduction to AICC, SCORM, and IMS (XML).

Are courses built with Web Course Builder readable by the blind?

Answer

Course developers can define associated text fields to describe any graphic and the quiz answers. Course developers can add audio to any course page. Courses created with Web Course Builder also include single-key navigation. For more information, read our WCB Conformance to ADA Guidelines
